Orsi Nagypal is a Hungarian filmmaker who escaped the glitzy world of advertising to study filmmaking at the London Film School, where she graduated with distinction in 2010.
Her debut feature "NYITVA/OPEN", a sexual dramedy on monogamy premiered in Montreal IFF in 2018, and arrived to Hungarian cinemas in October 2018 with success. In 2019-2021she directed the US indie dystopian drama "The Deal" for acclaimed producer Dean Devlin.
She has been directing TV shows since 2011, commissioned by HBO Europe, Syfy, TNT, MGM+ and CW USA, Betafilm Europe. She directed drama, fantasy, rom-com and satire tv series, helmed more than 100 episodes - taking the lead director's seat for 52 episodes.
She co-exec produced and directed four episodes of “RISE OF THE RAVEN”, an epic, action-heavy multi-language period drama on 15th century Hungarian war hero, Hunyadi, in an international co-prod by Canadian Serendipity Point, Hungarian NFI and BETA film. The tv series premiered at Cannes Mipcom 2024 to critical success, and on Hungarian tv channels breaking every record in viewership. The show has been sold to numerous countries around the globe in 2025 and competed at TIFF 2025.
In 2025 Orsi found herself in the forests of Sherwood, directing Sean Bean and Connie Nielsen for the latest Robin Hood adaptation for Lionsgate/MGM+.
Between 2010 and 2015 she wrote and directed four fictional short films, which were screened in numerous international film festivals like Clermont-Ferrand and won awards all over the world. She took part in numerous screenwriting workshops and markets across the globe during this time, like Binger, Sources2 and Ekran, Berlinale TC, Midpoint.
She is most interested in everyday heroes, human sexuality, strong, complex female characters, and how we find our true selves whilst struggling with the constrains of our societies. She loves mixing humour with drama, provocative with mundane, lust with awkwardness - as life tends to do. She is also lead singer and guitarist of a female punk&hip-hop band, The PinUps.
